Series finale discussion (spoilers inside)

What did everyone think of the finale? I really hope Lost does not go in this direction with its answers, If Lost ends and they reveal that Christian Shephard is an angel I will shoot at my tv. They answered most of the remaining mysteries by sweeping all of them under "It's all god's work" rug which pissed me off big time, such a Deus Ex Machina. I was entertained by the episode but the quality of answers left me wanting. The battle scenes were really epic though. The old school centurions having fistfights with the new centurions was freakin epic.

I agree that the answers weren't that great. Apparently the opera house was just some obtuse vision of the future. On the other hand, as opposed to lost, I think that BSG works as a character-centric drama alone, and the final resolutions for the characters were great. The mysteries of BSG were never a huge deal to me. I also liked the coda where we learn how the events of BSG fit in with our world. I still wonder what happened to the "bad" cylons, where did they go after the final battle, or was that supposed to have killed them all?

Yeah, I hated all the "god's plan" business that they have been gradually building up, but I loved the finale in general. I felt like there was enough else going on that it didn't bother me too much. Whatever Starbuck was, I prefer to think that she was more of a spirit than an angel, and I thought the show allowed enough leeway for me to think that. I agree about the characters on the show; the 2nd half of the final episode was all about the people and what will come of them now, how the humans from the colonies and these people we have become so attached to will make a transition to a final resting place. I have to say that I found it moving and I really nearly cried (which I do not do often.)
What I really didnt like was the interchange btw avatar Baltar and 6 at the end. I think the viewer would have had the same takeaway from that scene without them, and it would have been more powerful.
So say we all.

Apparently we are supposed to believe that when dead "racetrack" accidentally nuked the colony, the colony fell into the blackhole.

The problem for me is that I couldn't care less about these characters. I was only in it for the mythology. I used to care about them in Season1/2 and the New Caprica arc of season 3 but starting from sometime in the middle of season 3 they made these characters so unlikable to me that I lost all investment in most of them. Then in Season 4 and especially in the second pod of season 4 they made these characters very nihilistic and self destructive. I'm like you guys obviously don't care about yourself so why should I care about you? It was to the point that it looked to me like a ship full of emo kids. I understand making your characters flawed and not goody goody angels but there comes a point where the unlikability factor gets so high that the viewer is like screw you. Obviously for you guys they did not reach that point but for me they did. I think the reason why a show like Dexter works so well is that character of Dexter while not inherently likable has such a survival spirit that you can't help but root for him, he doesn't sit around and mope for 2 episodes when something goes wrong. Roslin and Adama retreat into their rooms after earth fails to deliver its promise, Adama stops giving a shit about the fleet... Roslin stops taking her meds, it is clear that these people don't want to live anymore and if I was in their situation I may have a similar reaction, but that still doesn't change the reaction I have towards them as tv characters; if you guys are so miserable and want to die so bad why should I care about you? Anders and to some extent Balter were the only characters that I still enjoyed by the end of the series. Anders was just awesome, he never fell into the emo trap that most other characters did. I just wish the show hadn't become so nihilistic towards the end of its run, I may have had more investment in the characters and wanted to root for them more.

That may be an exaggeration. It was never like LOST, though.

Ok I'll by that. But the mysteries on BSG weren't as plentiful. And let's face it, the characters on Lost only get so deep.
