New to the show

Post by Stephen »

any suggestions on how to watch it? i already took Justin's suggestion and I shield my eyes during the thing at the beginning that flashes through the episode.

are there any movies? specials? mobisodes? if so which order do i watch them in? what about podcasts, do they exist and should i listen to them after i watch each episode? i don't want to research this and accidentally spoil myself.

The outline of how everything is supposed to be watched:

Miniseries (the "pilot")
Season 1
Season 2
The Resistance Webisodes
Season 3
Razor Flashbacks Webisodes
Razor (standalone movie)
Season 4 Episodes 1-10
The Face of the Enemy Webisodes
Season 4 Episodes 11-20
The Plan (standalone movie - coming Fall 2009)

The webisodes and movie are of variable quality and not strictly necessary. All of it is better than the LOST ARG stuff, about as good as the Missing Pieces.

Ron Moore's official BSG podcast is great, it is in commentary format, but it is not essential, unless you are interested in his thoughts on the show, and
behind the scenes info. It should not be listened to until you have watched the corresponding episode, it will contain spoilers.

Stephen, I would just add to Justin's advice the following: buckle the fuck up.

Great series so far. One gripe:

All the humans hating on the Cylons for being "machines! no brain, just software! things!"

Apparently they are just like humans in every way (even better in some facets), just not created by traditional means.

It's like if someone decided to make a fake Macintosh computer. They rewrote the entire operating system and software from scratch and had the hardware outsourced to Japan and Switzerland. The end product is an exact duplicate of a Mac, only Steve Jobs doesn't profit. Then Jen's computer starts dissing Mac'ylon for not being a REAL computer.

But the whole trying-to-exterminate-humanity thing is a bit of a bummer, so I can understand their hate on that part.

I agree. This is a theme in the show-- can something that is human in nearly all ways really be thought of as not merely un-human, but the great cosmic nemesis of humanity. This becomes very intense in the show, and just thinking about all you have ahead of you makes me so jealous.

PS I have to know how you know that I am a Mac user...

its a prequel, but i havent seen it. i doubt there will be any spoilers bc it is set so far in advance of the events of the series, but there's no rush to watch the pilot bc the rest of the season wont air for a year.

There is going to be ANOTHER series?? ahhdfhsfj.

I only watched BSG after it aired so I wouldn't be stuck in another Lost situation, that is, waiting for each episode to air once a week... i guess it's a completely different series, so i should be fine.

btw I just finished season 4.0 dvds.
