Here's a link to Ben's baton. It's clearly not the same.

There are too many problems with the idea that Jack went back in time, and that when he awakens at the beginning of the pilot, that's a future Jack, having returned for some reason. Where did the Jack on the plane go? Is he dead? If so, then why does the future Jack exist?

Answer: it's just not the case (IMHO)

It actually kinda does look the same. But I agree with Claude, there is almost no chance it means anything. Especially since it's in the pilot where the writers/creators really didn't have the future of the show completely figured out. As to what it is... I have no idea. Maybe a piece of filming equipment that got into the shot by mistake?

This is fan over analyzation-speculation at it's best.

Clearly it's just a plant.

"In Australia Black Bamboo often reaches 7 - 8 m, twice as tall as often seen elsewhere. Under good conditions, the diameter of the culms can reach up to 7cm. More frequently, it ranges from 2 to 4 cm. This beautiful bamboo grows new green culms, darkening every day (especially when exposed in the sun) until it turns shiny ebony-black."

Hmmm, maybe. But they film Lost in Hawaii not Australia, do you know if they have black bamboo in Hawaii too?
