Changes to Desmond

In LAX, Desmond wore a brown suit and a wedding ring. In Happily Ever After, he came off the plane wearing a gray suit and no wedding ring.

Obviously Desmond and Jack both remembered meeting on the plane, so what's up with the differences?

Continuity error? I can see the actor forgetting to take his ring off for the scene.
