Since I drive a long way to work, I have time to listen to basicly every Lost podcast there is (except GSPN and some others.) It gets quite repetitive though after the 3rd, 4th Lost podcast about the same episode, especially the recaps...

Other than that:
SModcast with Kevin James: http://quickstopentertainment.com/smodcast/

Also, The Filmpigs: http://www.filmpigs.com/commentaries.htm
I guess you could consider it a podcast, they do alternative movie commentaries.. I'm pretty sure every LLD listener will like this one ;)

Stephen how can you listen to so much BBC? Those pompous british voices are so self-important and annoying. try NPR.

I feel the exact opposite. I find most NPR hosts (and listeners) sound depressed and sound as though speaking through the nose. Not to mention monotone. I have listened to my share of NPR, and off the top of my head "Click and Clack" of Car Talk are an exception. When I get home I will download some NPR podcasts to remember why I don't like the way they speak.

World Have Your Say is syndicated on several public radio stations in the US. I can usually pick out the callers (and emails read by BBC folk). The women especially have the same disposition. The listeners don't sound quite like the NPR broadcasters, they have the attitude and flair their on-air counterparts lack. Except they sound whiny.

Or maybe the British voices are just exotic and I can't recognize the dullness that might be apparent to a brit. Once again when I return to the homestead I will analyze both sides.

Thank you for having me.

The only BBC I can stand is Radio 1. It's like their music service. I feel like the host's of those shows speak more naturally.

Nearly every guest on NPR says "thank you for having me" at the end of their interview. I don't know what it is, but I tire of that phrase real fast.

Which NPR podcasts would you recommend to me?

Talk of the Nation is really good. http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/r ... hp?prgId=5
Every friday they have a different host who's not very good for "science friday" so just ignore that.
On The Media's sometimes interesting. http://www.onthemedia.org/
But the masterpiece of public radio is This American Life. http://www.thislife.org/
You start listening and you won't be able to stop. Like a good book, it hooks you right in and doesn't let you go until the end.
I recommend going to their episode archive and starting with, 218: Act V, 220: Testosterone, or 322: Shouting Across the Divide.

I promised myself I would never listen to This American Life. I did break this rule once when my friend alerted me of an episode about Nauru. I love South Pacific island nations, mostly Kiribati, but Nauru has tons in common with Banaba, which belongs to Kiribati.

But from my understanding I would compare TAL to the aforementioned "Documentaries" from the World Service.

I am downloading TOTN and TAL ATM.

Why did you promise yourself you'd never listen to This American Life? Because it's so addictive? :-)
I might check out some of those documentaries...

It's just one of those things I'm too cool for.

I just listened to the first two quarters of TAL and it's pretty neat. Reminds me of the Wall Street Journal's A-hed, as it is known internally, column.

I don't like Ira's voice. And the background music while people speak.

I realized what it is: NPR folks don't have radio voices.

No, they don't. They have public broadcast voices: boring but informative. I like the tone that NPR has. It's very calm. They don't over-dramatize their stories, which I appreciate.

I just found The Bugle, a hilarious current event podcast from The Times (the London variety). AMAZING.
I listen to it after I listen to Democracy Now!...it is a much lighter take on the grim state of the world, featuring John Oliver of The Daily Show fame and some other guy who I would probably know if I were from the birth place of the the English language.

Ricky Gervais has a strange but wonderful laugh. It's just bursts out of him without any warning.

A few additions:

The Hollywood Saloon: very good shows for movie lovers and directors (well produced)...not a weekly pod or anything but basically a free lecture on movie-related stuff (the Fincher episode is my favourite). In one episode they actually hinted that they may have made the longest podcast ever (it was about 3 hours - being a Lowdown listener, I laughed!). Most episodes are about 2 hours or so and are high quality:

AND...

Reel Horror Podcast: these guys are ridiculous but hilarious at times, but not very consistent in their delivery...

ok i have to list the podcasts i listen to, since they're so absurd and embarassing.

Lost podcasts...
*Lost Lowdown!
*Jay and Jack
*The Transmission
*Dharmalars

Harry Potter podcasts..
*Mugglecast
*Pottercast

Twilight Podcasts...
*Imprint: A Twilight Podcast
*Twilight Series Theories

Video Games...
*Joystiq XBox 360 Fancas
*Game Theory

my excuse... i have an hour drive to work and back each day. the lost lowdown only fills in about 2 days of driving haha so the others fill in the rest. check 'em out if you're interested in the topics! which hopefully you're not hahaaa

I can't handle Jay and Jack anymore.
80% Listener Feedback. zzzzz. They have so many listeners that they cant possibly look through everything so they're stuck with using phone calls from idiots.
On top of that, there's the Lost Recap which is so pointless if you listen to LLD.
Only reason to listen would be the ever more predictable father son banter which is nothing to do with Lost at all.
Until they have an interview or perhaps a Bare Naked Hurley song, I'm out.

LLD for Lost
10th Wonder for Heroes
SHoE for Smallville

That'll do me.

Oh, anyone here know of a good UFC/MMA podcast?
I guess I'll have a browse myself if not.

ok you inspired me to delete my Jay and Jack feed haha. I realized I only listen to it out of habit, and really they're getting quite annoying. and yeah the listener feedback calls are never very interseting, the "crackpot theory" of the week is always completely retarded, jack is always interrupting jay, I never learn anything new. I officially renounce their podcast!!

That is why it's called "crackpot theory". Their Lost podcast is okay, I could take it or leave it but their other shows Jay and Jack show and Married Man Podcast are frikkin hilarious.

Did you hear that the station went to all music? So he was let go along with all the others on that station.
If you don't know already and you still want to hear Adam Carolla rant then you can go to Adamcarolla.com and listen to his podcasts. He started recording podcasts Monday February 23rd.

EDIT: WHAT?? CANCELLED??

wait. maybe this is good. MAYBE HE'LL GO BACK TO LOVELINE.

thanks for the news illustrious vickih, the original fan.

edit2: halfway through podcast #2. this is heavenly without Teresa, the main reason I stopped listening to the radio show.
