What They Died For is in the can (and has been for longer than I care to admit), so it should be out soon!
The End is something we've discussed, but it's a big deal, so we want to do it right! Hang in there, we will complete this journey!

Almost one year after the premiere, and I still don't understand "The Return". Watching other Lynch, though, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart, showed he always had a bit of "Dougie" in his work, I just let it slide, because it wasn't 13 HOURS of Dougie-type hijinks.

LOL. It's hard to keep it up for so long! I slightly regret being so negative about GSPN and Jay and Jack....
But "the spy family" still makes me giggle.

The Dark Tower Movie
One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Idris Elba does his best (with a horrible script), Matthew McConaughey is worse, but I also blame the atrocious script. If you've never read the books, it's a pile of boring, incoherent nonsense. If you have read the books, it's a pile of boring inco...

Nolan's latest is (predictably) stylish, structurally-focused, and (surprisingly) light on exposition. Relentlessly grim focus on retreat, but there are a couple of Spielbergian feel-good moments with swelling, rather bland, music (I wish he would change composers). A fairly abstract, unemotional af...

brief movie review round up
I was recently very sick and had the chance to catch up on some movies I missed over the past few years. Birdman 6 out of 10 Part madcap backstage comedy, part Barton Fink/Adaptation-esque rumination on commercialism vs art, part depressing character study. This movie is a mess. It was entertaining,...

No!! I like The Constant, I just think it's horribly overrated. In my ratings it would probably be a top 20 episode, but towards the bottom of that 20. I actually think that Flashes... is more interesting in a lot of ways. But maybe I'll change my mind when we get to it.

That's a tough one since his best work is mostly in the form of extremely long novels, or extremely longs series of novels... In general the best stuff is the earlier stuff : 70s and 80s. Maybe The Shining (though personally in that case I prefer the movie, Kubrick is just too good), or Misery. If y...

My review of 11/22/63 (spoilers!!)
I can not talk about this book without getting into detail about the plot, and so I must say very little before giving a spoiler warning. The book was entertaining and exhibits nicely King's usual style. However, some of the plot bogs down in both the historical and the fictional contexts, and the e...

My problems with this story: 1. Even though smokey can have the memories of those he imitates, I don't think he shares their motivations. The smokey version of Locke is different from Locke, and probably wouldn't care about resolving Locke's daddy issues, or proving his worth to "the island". 2. Ch...

Yeah, I don't buy it for obvious reasons (they juxtaposed it with a FS about Nadia), as well as the fact that the Shannon romance was Naveen Andrews's idea. I think the core idea about the character from the beginning was his longing for Nadia. Shannon was an amusing diversion, up there with Elsa. ...

Thank you for saying "via media", very apropos. Upon reflection, and watching the scene a few more times, the light cave is a bit silly. I honestly wish Mother had said less about it. I didn't interpret the article as saying that they needed an entire episode. My take away was that they had 2 problems: 1. The outrigger chase did not fit into the story line as they developed it in Season 6. 2. It was logistically difficult to get all the actors involved with Sawyer's outrigger. M...

For example, if you set out to make Citizen Kane and you succeed, then I think that is objectively better, or has more aesthetic merit, t...
