So, the story elements of Avatar are familiar, yes. But that doesn't diminish the fact that all of the elements were expertly used to tell a "new" story. You knew Jake was going to become a Na'vi, fall in love, and fight his own people. But as long as the drama is believeable, I think it's a success...

I also thought it was a bit contrived that the line at the start of the scene was "Shut up!... and stay here, Ethan". I know it's only minor, but it's annoying that just to get him to say "Ethan" last, they structured the phrase this way. It should have been either "Ethan! Shut up!...and stay here"...

Not exactly the beauty contest I'd want to be judge of, but I'll say that the girl who plays Hermione gets extra points just for playing Hermione.

I wonder if it's possible that any of these shots/scenes were mirrored in editing for some reason. that would explain the discontinuity without it being a production error.

I've seen all of ER, many episodes twice thanks to TNT.

I think they're supposed to be the same type of boat. The new ones do look different for some reason, but if you search lostpedia for "outrigger" you can check for yourself. They're at least both catamarans.

I think this needs more review. I think the reveal that Widmore was tricked off the island is too big for it to be associated with a lie. I think Widmore needs to truely beleive that Locke was/could have been duped in the same manner.
